Star Wars: The Old Republic - Roadmap For 2019 Will Be Featured At The Star Wars Celebration

Star Wars: The Old Republic - Roadmap For 2019 Will Be Featured At The Star Wars Celebration

The Star Wars Celebration 2019 takes place in Chicago from April 11 to 15, revealing, among other things, gameplay to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Now Bioware has announced a Cantina Event for Star Wars: The Old Republic for April 13 in Chicago. This event is part of the Celebration at the Marriott Marquis Hotel.

In addition to opportunities to talk to developers and dust off exclusive fan articles, the roadmap for SWTOR 2019 will be revealed during the Cantina.

SWTOR Patch 6.0 as an extension? SWTOR is currently at the patch 5.10.1 level and the next update 5.10.2 is scheduled for the PTS in March. However, Bioware already announced last spring that Patch 6.0 will be the next major expansion. This should appear after patch 5.9 and 5.10.

Thus, it can be assumed that during the Cantina event there will be details on the next big chapter of the Star Wars MMORPG. It has already been revealed last year that the history of enlargement will again focus on the war between the Republic and the Empire.

Patch 5.10.1 recently brought in a new Operations boss named "Mutated Geonosian Queen" for 8 and 16 players. Details about the content of patch 5.10.2 are expected to be released in early March.

MapleStory 2 Devs To Remove 'Fairfight' System In Response To Player Feedback

Last month, Nexon developers introduced MapleStory 2 players to "Project New Leaf", its initiative to respond to player feedback about the game. After gathering data from the community, developers will be releasing a new patch today that removes the "Fairfight" system, "a balancing system that normalizes high-level players with lower level ones". The removal of Fairfight was the most-requested system update by the player community and provides endgame players with more exploration opportunities.

"Additionally, Trader’s Ribbons will receive updates that make them applicable to Legendary gear up to Lv. 50. When the Meso Market launches in the near future, there will be a low limit on meso trading per account. For players who purchase mesos illegally through meso sellers, there will be a permanent ban."

This is the first of several updates Nexon has planned for Project New Leaf. We'll keep you posted as more are announced.

Fortnite Player Discovers Awesome New Way To Open Supply Drops

Fortnite Player Discovers Awesome New Way To Open Supply Drops

Even now, after so many people have played it for so many hours, folks are still finding new ways to up their game in Fortnite. And this latest trick is one that you’ll definitely want to make note of.

As you surely know, Supply Drops often occur in different locations around the map and drop at random throughout the match. They’re easy to spot, too, as blue smoke indicates where the drop will land. Of course, it can take some time for them to get there and the longer you wait around, the more chance you have of being picked off by other players all making their way to the same spot in the hope of getting the goods for themselves.

But the other issue with Supply Drops is that they can be a drain on ammo. One way to make them drop down quicker is to shoot at them and take out their health bar. Again, this wastes precious ammunition and can also alert enemies to your whereabouts. And so, enter this new trick, which allows you to open them in a much smarter and safer way.

Reddit user Zaidkhalifa has shared the below video and frankly, it’s rather brilliant. See for yourself (or click the media if it won’t play):

Best method to get to open up a supply drop from r/FortNiteBRAs you can see, all you’ll need to do is head to the smoke and once you’re in it, use three balloons to be lifted into the air. You’ll then find yourself stopped by the Supply Drop – as long as you get the positioning right – and from there, you can just open it. You’ll then want to release the balloons and make a safe landing.

All in all, it’s a neat little Fortnite trick that folks will surely start using and as we mentioned above, it’s great to see that people are still finding new ways to play the game even this long after release.

Have you suffered enough from lousy equipment and limited resources in Fortnite that negligibly small to help you thrive in all competitions? Are you running out of time to farm and harvest due to the busy schedule? Well, here is the savior for you to meet - MMOAH. SWTOR: Developer Talks About The Present And Future Of The MMORPG

SWTOR: Developer Talks About The Present And Future Of The MMORPG

New Year, new information about the sci-fi MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. Developer Eric Musco gives the fans the first glimpse of upcoming game content at the official SWTOR forum and invites them to join Star Wars Celebration Cantina in Chicago. There is also a nice musical review of Star Wars Galaxies.

News for Star Wars: The Old Republic! Firstly, Eric Musco, the Community Manager of SWTOR, registered in the official forum. In a short post, he roughly described Bioware's future plans for the SciFi MMORPG.

The necessary bug fixes and further fixes for patch 5.10.1 are of course the first priority for the development team. Eric promises that soon (probably in March!) There will be solid information about the next update 5.10.2. The developers are already working on it - but fixing technical issues is currently a priority.

Roadmap to SWTOR at the Celebration Cantina in Chicago

The most exciting announcement, however, was the Star Wars Celebration Cantina in Chicago, where Bioware will present "more news and the roadmap for this year ." And although the SWTOR fans have certainly hoped for more information or even a teaser for Patch 6.0 (including new expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic!), Eric Musco's post at least a sign of life for MMORPG. All in all, it seems that Bioware is currently busy with the development of other games and therefore the updates for SWTOR back something. Here is the original post:

"Hey, folks,

With 5.10.1 out the door, I know you are all curious about what is coming next. We have talked about this in the past but I want to update it all in one place.

  • Bugs from 5.10.1 - We still have a few issues that popped out of 5.10.1 (such as Vette causing hitching) that we want to address. 5.10.2 but we want to get a patch sooner then if we can. It will not be huge but getting a few fixes out soon. I want to pass on more details on timing and what will be fixed once I know more.
  • 5.10.2 - Our Next Update is Coming ... We're about to get it in your hands on PTS. Look for more info on this update in early March.
  • After 5.10.2 - We should have details on our SW Celebration Cantina announced towards the end of February. Join us in Chicago if you can, or just keep your eyes posted on the interwebs during Celebration for more from this year.

Thanks all.

-Eric "

But even for the fans of the set MMO Star Wars Galaxies, there is a small consolation. Developer Raph Koster told viewers of his stream that part of Porter Robinson's EDM album was inspired by Star Wars Galaxies and its demise. You will find more about this in the following tweet:

RuneScape’s Elite Dungeons Trilogy Concludes Today With The Shadow Reef

RuneScape’s Elite Dungeons Trilogy Concludes Today With The Shadow Reef

The Shadow Reef has you taking on The Ambassador in a multi-level abyss set in the waters of Gielinor. You’ll fight three major bosses and plenty of minibosses besides. As in all the Elite Dungeons, you can tackle this one either solo or with a group, and if you’re focused on the lore you can play through in story mode for a reduced difficulty – though that also means fewer rewards.

In a significant change over the previous releases, you can jump into The Shadow Reef without having completed the earlier Elite Dungeons. That restriction is lifted from the earlier releases, too, so you can now complete them in any order if you’re more interested in the new challenges than the three-step story.

You can get some flavor in the trailer below.

The Shadow Reef is open today.

RuneScape player count is still doing well after all these years, as Jagex reported that 2017 – 16 years after RuneScape originally debuted – was its most profitable ever.

New Skills In The Nex Synthesis League Of Path Of Exile: Soulrend And Bane

New Skills In The Nex Synthesis League Of Path Of Exile: Soulrend And Bane

Path of Exile has officially revealed that there would be two new skills added into the game along with the release of the Synthesis League in the next month. Named after Soulrend and Bane respectively, the two skills cast and function in different ways, as well as with the result that damage durations and damage areas.

Soulrend is a projectile skill that weaves through enemies and works perfectly for the enemies in the middle or long distance from the caster. Meanwhile, when the skill hit any enemies, it immediately bounces through them into their vicinal ones. The projectile travels through the enemies with medium-sized-radius damage over time effect. The damage over time effect of Soulrend skill is largely appreciable, however, the duration of this effect is quite short.

Enemies hit by Soulrend takes a handful of damages while the skill can grant a large amount of Energy Shield Leech to casters. Although Designed to be an independently-used skill, Soulrend can also be used in conjunction with Essence Drain for a much more significant damage-over-time effect and life-restoring effect.

Unlike the Soulrend, Bane is a skill that features large-area damages with instant casting. Also, it can apply linked curses to enemies. As one more curse Bane applies, there will be more over-time damages to enemies and 50% more duration of this skill. Bane also features Curse skill type, it allows some modifiers on the passive tree to apply to casting the Bane Skill.

In addition to a full introduction to above two new skills, the post indicated that some major improvements of Chaos Spell that devs have been working on all along. The changes are mostly from Blight Threshold Jewel. Quote the blog post, "We've changed this threshold jewel to instead cause each pulse of Blight to also apply Wither for 2 seconds per jewel." The improvements reportedly result in higher damages of Chaos Skills than the previous ones.

New Forms Of Priviate League And A Firm Date Of The PS4 Version: Solace Isn't A Cure

New Forms Of Priviate League And A Firm Date Of The PS4 Version: Solace Isn't A Cure

Path of Exile declared a new patch would release before the Synthesis League goes live. The upcoming patch is presumably the last one of the Betrayal League. Also, it may be a blend of the warm-up round for next league and the last "tie-up-the-loose-ends" work. And that's very typical and commonly acknowledged for the game's development patterns, considering it's already happened to several predecessors.

The patch, or should call 3.5.4b patch to be precise, has very limited contents yet extremely crucial cause each of them is hard to be overlooked. In this patch, the game determined to open up the entry to build private leagues based on the Synthesis league for all Path of Exile Gamers, however, note that those private leagues will not be accessible and functional until the Synthesis goes live on March 8th.

The Private League is quite a hit in Path of Exile since it has been rolled out back in November 2018. Private League is the sign of the utmost customization this game managed to provide. Basically, you are allowed to modify anything in a Private League, like reducing players' resistances and removing stashes, by exploiting the additional modifiers if you are the creator. The keynote of a Private League is to make the adventures even harder than the ones in the parent league and to invite someone else joining your own league so that you can build yourself an army of adventure. You are in full charge of every aspect of the world in a private league if you own one. Isn't that fascinating?

Since you need a parent league, such as a permanent league or a currently functional challenge league, to formulate a private league while Betrayal league, as the available challenge league at the moment, is in the countdown to be removed, so if anyone prefers to move on and experience the charm of the Synthesis league, it's the opening of pre-ordering a private league from now on.

In addition to the patch release, Path of Exile also published a post regarding the firm date issue with the release of the PS4 version. Aside from the stereotyped negative reply "we still can't give you a firm update" and the typical slickness "we will let you know as soon as we have the date", the announcement is actually more genuine and honest than any similar posts I've seen before, which let's be honest, turned out to be complete mendacities or talk nonsenses. The most eye-catching parts of this announcement are a), the developers stick to the script and abide by the last promise they made: the PS4 version of Path of Exile will go live in Mid-March; b) they also affirmatively reckoned that the firm date would be announced around two weeks before the launch of the PS4 version. So in a nutshell, we can receive a firm date of the PS4 version from the developers as early as the end of this month. That's definitely better than nothing at all, right?

Final Fantasy XIV’s Real-Life Wedding Service Is Super-Cute; Take A Look At The Ceremony

Final Fantasy XIV’s Real-Life Wedding Service Is Super-Cute; Take A Look At The Ceremony

It isn’t a mystery that MMORPGs often play the role of matchmakers, with many relationships between players moving into something quite a lot more “real” in the physical world. Final Fantasy XIV is not an exception.

We reported a while ago about the announcement of the creation of a Final Fantasy XIV real-life wedding service about to open in Kobe, Japan. On Valentine’s Day Square Enix hosted a test ceremony for the Japanese press, and was so kind to provide us with plenty of pictures and new information on the service, which will open reservations within the next few weeks.

Here are a few facts for your perusal.

  • Both the wedding dress and tuxedo for the bride and groom are modeled after the FFXIV in-game models.
  • Numerous in-game assets are used as background images and video to decorate the proceedings and bring the Eternal Bonding ceremony to life.
  • Bridge/Groom are able to carry the job weapon of their choice (replicas from in-game models) during the proceedings.
  • FFXIV music is played throughout the procession.
  • An FFXIV themed cake is also part of the package, and there is a full menu for the reception with FFXIV-themed food and drink.
  • According to a press session after the ceremony, a standard plan for the FFXIV Wedding Service with 70 guests would run about 3.5mm Yen / $31,500.

That’s not exactly cheap, but this is supposed to be the most important day of your life, and likely the geekiest, so it might very well be worth it.

You can check out quite a few images below, with producer and director Naoki Yoshida himself playing the role of the father of the bride, former Dempagumi.inc member Moga Mogami.

If you want to know more about Final Fantasy XIV and its upcoming expansion Shadowbringers, you can check out the official trailer and Gunbreaker job, and the reveal of the new areas, Viera race, YorHa raid, and more, some official screenshots and art pieces released after the keynote, and some fantastic new artwork.

If you want to get ready before it releases, Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood is currently available for PS4 and PC, and a few more updates are coming, including a Final Fantasy XV crossover.

The expansion will officially launch on July 2 for PS4 and PC.

Final Fantasy XIV's Director Talks Blue Mages, World Visits, And 'Modern' MMOs

Final Fantasy XIV's Director Talks Blue Mages, World Visits, And 'Modern' MMOs

Final Fantasy XIV is prepping for a new expansion later this summer. The lead-up to this expansion, Shadowbringers, has brought new classes like the Blue Mage, and will soon open worlds with the ability to visit other servers. Kotaku emailed questions to game director Naoki Yoshida (a.k.a. “Yoshi P”) about new job classes, whether or not world visits could shake up economies, and what multiplayer games he’s keeping his eyes on these days.

On the introduction of Blue Mages:

Naoki Yoshida: The Blue Mage is only able to acquire balance because it is what we now call a “limited job,” and there are no plans to remove the limited aspect from the job.

However, we do plan to raise the level cap on the Blue Mage—and this doesn’t necessarily have to be timed with an expansion release. So at some point during the 5.x patch series, players can expect new blue magic which can be acquired, additions to the Masked Carnivale, and even new content to tackle.

I would say we are only at the “So You Want to be a Blue Mage?” chapter in the overall journey for this job—there is a lot of future blue mage content in the pipeline for our players to enjoy.

On the idea of “limited” jobs:

Heather Alexandra, Kotaku: But how do you decide what is or is not limited? For Blue Mage, it seemed to rest in how difficult it was to control when players unlocked certain skills. Is there another job that you want to have in-game but only see working as a limited class? Beastmaster, for instance?

Yoshida: The process of developing one of these jobs doesn’t start with us asking ourselves what will be the next limited job. We are, however, mindful of two things: ensuring both that the job or job type we implement will be enjoyed by the players, and that it will make for an interesting and fun experience. During this process, if we come to a potential job that we feel may not necessarily fit well within standard party gameplay, we will then consider whether or not we make it a limited job.

With Blue Mage, for example, we run into the issue where learning monster actions are the main pillar of the job, but we can potentially see a huge disparity in power between Blue Mages depending on the blue magic they have learned—even if their job level is the same. In other words, too large of a disparity in the number of blue magic abilities learned would create issues if Blue Mages were able to queue normally for duties.

Additionally, blue magic is interesting because they are powerful. However, if we allow Blue Mages to queue for the newest raid, we would need to weaken much of the blue magic to properly adjust the class to the fight, and I feel it would be boring for the Blue Mage. To avoid issues, we created this as a limited job—this allows us to circumvent the problem but still have an enjoyable job.

By utilizing this concept of limited jobs, I feel that it could potentially open up possibilities to explore the addition of jobs such as Puppetmaster and Beastmaster.

On comparisons to Final Fantasy XI and making a “modern” MMO:

Yoshida: Whenever we compare FFXI with FFXIV, I believe it’s important to have a knowledge of the history of the MMORPG genre. FFXI is a part of the first generation of MMORPGs, and the game itself is structured heavily on a “time to win” model. There is the assumption that players will spend huge amounts of time in-game, and therefore the game world provides the freedom to adventure without guiding the player through it.

However, because you have the freedom, people end up getting lost, or just spend a lot of time traveling between locations. Furthermore, there was the aspect of not being able to progress through almost all content without a party. This type of gameplay experience continued for quite some time [in the MMO space]. Although this did create some very strong experiences and memories which helped to drive the development of the MMORPG genre, it also created an issue on the opposite end of the spectrum: players weren’t able to actually play the game because they couldn’t dedicate the time.

When we were redesigning FFXIV for A Realm Reborn following the failure of FFXIV 1.0, I had a very strong mindset to make A Realm Reborn the final game of the second generation of MMORPGs. Modern day gamers are very busy, and time has become far more valuable than money—many forms of entertainment, not limited video games, are now vying for players’ time. Keeping that in mind, the base of FFXIV is built upon providing a high-quality experience for players, even if they are only playing in shorter sessions. On top of that base, we create content that provides the opportunity for those who wish to spend more time playing but never making this a mandatory experience. This is the difference in gameplay experience when comparing FFXI and FFXIV.

I grew up heavily immersed in first generation MMORPGs myself, so I would like to have the opportunity to create a game that fits that mold, but I’m certain it would be tough to sell in this day and age…

On the upcoming World Visit system and whether or not it might affect server economies:

Alexandra: I know some players who are worried that their servers might see a rise in bots when the gates open. Is the team doing anything to prepare for these sort of things and combat this in the future?

Yoshida: I believe there is no doubt that the economy will show some fluctuation, but I don’t think farming bots would suddenly increase in number across all the worlds. Unless there’s a sudden surge in the number of players, supply and demand should not change drastically. The game economy will show increased activity at first, and I think players will jump from world to world to sell and buy items. However, each of these economies will establish a price point within the market, and the initial fluctuations should stabilize.

I am honestly a bit more concerned about fluctuations in the market price being very severe over a short amount of time rather than an increase in bots.

As an aside, we have always been applying countermeasures against bots, and as we report to our players each week, we continue to ban thousands to tens of thousands of characters that are determined to be taking part in these activities. We will continue to do our due diligence to mitigate this type of activity.

On the other multiplayer games he follows:

Yoshida: I regularly check out all varieties of online games, but currently feel that Monster Hunter: World has great potential. The ease of content matching and the unique gameplay experience that almost instantaneously provides excitement works very well within the current gaming era, and I feel that there’s even greater potential for the title.

One other strong example would, of course, be the World of Warcraft. Looking at the various challenges they took on with their latest expansion pack, I feel they have a certain foresight that can look even a few years ahead, and continue to stay strong.
