More orcs are increasingly being added to World of Warcraft in Battle for Azeroth

In last week’s developer Q&A, World of Warcraft’s game director, Ion Hazzikostas, sat to answer community questions on Battle for Azeroth, the overall game’s seventh expansion.

While answering an issue about Battle for Azeroth’s new Allied Races system, Hazzikostas confirmed the Draenor Orcs would eventually arrived at the game.

“Once Battle for Azeroth releases, after you’re leveling to 120, gonna new lands, you’ll have the capacity to begin working around the requirements to unlock future Allied Races for example the Dark Iron Dwarves or Orcs from Draenor that we’ve hinted at,” Hazzikostas said.

The main difference over these Orcs versus the approaches players also have access to for a long time is the hue of their skin. Draenor Orcs are brown, whereas player Orcs are green. This new colour of Orc has become a highly requested feature for WoW, years prior to Allied Race system was even announced.

Warcraft veterans realize that all Orcs, even our green-skinned ones, was once brown. The Orcs that currently continue to exist Azeroth, the planet which the “World” in World of Warcraft identifies, are in reality aliens from another planet, Draenor.

Decades before World of Warcraft happens, most of the Draenor Orcs were tempted from the Orc warlock and Warcraft big bad Gul’Dan into drinking demon blood. This made the orcs powerful but additionally enraged them, causing them to be easier to control through the warlock’s perspective. This powerful drink also turned their skin green — a trait that's passed down generation after generation.

The Draenor Orcs are who are untainted from the demonic blood, who never willingly lost the fight their freedom to be more powerful. The green Orcs eventually defeated the demons and Gul’Dan, but were forever marked by their green skin.

But this is when things obtain a little complicated. In World of Warcraft’s primary timeline, brown Orcs are rare. After our Orcs drank the blood and escaped to Azeroth, the demons took over Draenor and transformed the earth into Outland, the continent players conquered during WoW’s first expansion, The Burning Crusade.

However, in WoW’s fifth expansion, Warlords of Draenor, players traveled back in its history to a different timeline and befriended the Draenor Orcs before these were corrupted. Players helped push the demons from Draenor, saving that timeline in the same fate as ours. These alternate timeline Orcs are nevertheless out there, and it also seems that players may soon be venturing to get them to Azeroth.

Brown-skinned Orcs use a lot of lore significance to players. Not only are they aesthetically distinct through the Orcs we now have, they represent a team of Orcs who fought the nice fight, in lieu of playing the villains inside the old Warcraft RTS games.

Hazzikostas didn’t help it become entirely clear once the Draenor Orcs will probably be coming, but players should be ready to get their hands on these time-traveling Orcs sometime within the next 24 months.
