Old School RuneScape’s sprouted a new region today. The Kebos Lowlands is part of the MMO's first big update since it went multiplatform and launched a mobile edition in October last year. Expect a new town needing help, monsters needing to be slain and a new dungeon waiting to be delved into.
The RuneScape spin-off is an unusual experiment. Unlike the now-defunct RuneScape Classic and World of Warcraft Classic, Old School isn’t a snapshot of the game that once was. It’s based on the 2007 version of the game and is large as you might remember it, but like regular RuneScape, it’s still a living MMO, and it receives frequent updates and new features voted for by the community.
I visited Jagex and went on an Old School RuneScape tour last year, and despite being a bit of an eyesore, it’s easy to see the appeal. Unlike modern MMOs, Old School expects you to do quite a bit of legwork and doesn’t have that developer-guided critical path. You just sort of amble around, meeting people and getting into strange adventures, like learning how to communicate with a ghost or taking a trip to the fey dimension by mistake.
The latest update adds the town of Brimstone, a new monster—a hydra—and a new slayer dungeon. There’s a farming guild, too, and more novice quests and rewards. Jagex says that it’s the most diverse update the game’s received since it launched in 2013.
You can play Old School Runescape on your browser or download the client for free.

Epic Games has brought back the 14 Days Of Fortnite challenges in Fortnite: Battle Royale.
After an Epic employee told gamers that the challenges would be live for a few days after the 14th day, the company then ended the challenges much earlier. This led to a great deal of backlash, including this angry rant from yours truly, and a few days later Epic made the right move and announced they'd be bringing the challenges back. (At first, they just gave out the special glider for the 14th challenge to everyone who participated in the event, but this was not good enough for many Fortnite fans.)
Bringing back all the challenges is definitely a good thing for gamers---and for Epic from a public relations standpoint---since many players were too busy over the holidays traveling or spending time with family to actually complete many of these and banked on having a few extra days to wrap them up. Some of the rewards are really great, also, like the wonderful Gingerbread Pet or the Disco Wrap.
In any case, here at Forbes Games myself, Paul Tassi and Dave Thier wrote up a bunch of guides for the 14 Days of Fortnite. They're linked to below with maps, screenshots, and tips as well as the reward for each day.

Good luck and happy holidays all over again!
Day 1: How To Start Or Join A Creative Server
Day 2: Where To Visit Two Giant Gandy Canes
Day 3: How To Play 3 Matches With A Friend
Day 4: How To Throw A Snowball At Players In 4 Different Matches
Day 5: Where To Fly Through 5 Golden Rings
Day 6: Where To Search 6 Waterside Goose Nests
Day 7: Where To Find Presents And Boogie Bombs
Day 8: How To Deal Damage With 8 Different Weapons
Day 9: Where To Dance In Front Of 9 Holiday Trees
Day 10: How To Land Tricks In 10 Different Locations
Day 11: How To Thank The Bus Driver On Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mobile
Day 12: Where To Destroy 12 Snowflake Decorations
Day 13: How To Place 13 Devices On A Creative Island
Day 14: How To Search 14 Chests
You have until January 15th to finish all of these challenges and earn all the rewards.
The best ones, however, are on the following days:
Day 5: The Combat Wreath (Back Bling)
Day 7: The Merry Munchkin (Gingerbread Pet)
Day 11: The Frozen Axe (Harvesting Tool)
Day 13: The Disco Wrap
Day 14's challenge is also great, but the Equalizer Glider was given to players as an apology gift when Epic ended these challenges early, so many players will already have it. If not, you just need to finish Day 14's challenge.
The toughest of all these challenges may be Day 11---remembering to thank the bus driver 11 different times is surprisingly difficult!
In any case, good luck solving these and earning the free rewards, and kudos to Epic Games for doing right by its fanbase. This makes me very happy, as now I can squad up with my kids and finish these up, or at least the ones that count.

Two of RuneScape’s original skills – which have been available since the game launched – have finally been reworked. To mark the game’s 18th anniversary, Jagex has overhauled the mining and smithing skills, introducing four new tiers of armour and weaponry.
According to an explanation on RuneScape’s website, Smithing will now take longer, increasing their value, but you’ll get more XP for whatever you create. Smithed items can now be upgraded, offering faster rewards and making them more valuable in combat. Once you’ve upgraded an item to its fullest extent, you can take it to Falador, where the dwarves will bury it, giving you even more XP than before.
When it comes to mining, the update offers plenty to high-level players. Previously, you needed level 85 smithing to make use of rune armour, which you could wield at combat level 50. To redress that imbalance, rune armour can now be smithed at level 50, and four new metals will make up armour that you can smith at levels 60, 70, 80, and 90.
If you’re heading to a quarry, you’ll need a pickaxe that’s at least as high a level as the rock you’re mining – so a level 30 rock needs a level 30 pickaxe, and so on. When you start mining you’ll see that each swing gives you XP, and fills up a progress bar. Once full, that bar gives you an ore. The higher your level and better your pickaxe, the faster the bar fills and the more ore you get.
The update also caters to those of you who like to play on a second screen. Rocks don’t delete any more, making it easier to share, but also to mine while completely AFK. XP and ore rates are better if you’re actually playing, but if all you need is to grind out some levels, the new update should cater to you pretty nicely. To maximise how much you can get out of all that mining downtime, there’s also a brand-new ore box, letting you store up to 100 of every ore up to the level you’ve upgraded it to, potentially allowing for an inventory of several thousand ores. The skills rework is going live now, so jump in and take a look at all the new features yourself.

Recently, Jagex has announced that Old School Runescape Mobile port has passed its Five-Million-Downloads mark on iOS and Android.
Reddit is one of the most prestigious online media with consistent creativity and grand imagination popping out, especially the ones regarding Fortnite Battle Royale. And now, one creation of the artwork is catching a group of users' eye.
'ItsHarrisonW' recreated one of the most significant and unforgettable scenes from the newly released film"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse", by adopting the Fortnite in-game Creative Mode.
The first animated feature film in the Spider-Man franchise, Into the Spider-Verse, is set in a multiverse where there are several characters that share the same abilities, all of whom ultimately assemble in one universe to get the best of evil.
The scenario that the Reddit user recreated from the film was of Miles Morales, the dominant role of the film, leaping off of a tall skyscraper and try his new abilities as Next Generation Spider-Man out.
That scene was so iconic that screenshots of it were used in the main marketing campaign for the film in the days and weeks leading up to its release.
Since the Reddit user apparently did not possess a Spider-Man outfit skin to apply to recreate the scene in Fortnite, he settled for the less-than-ideal alternative - the bare and basic version of the Fortnite Omega skin.
In addition to that, the Fortnite version of the scene came out very similar to that of the film, especially since the original music that played in the movie was also adopted for this project.
The creator did an amazing job at capturing the same intense camera angles that were used in the film, which play a major role in why the scene is regarded so memorable.
With this project having such admirable achievements, it really indicates how creative some of the Fortnite player-base can really be, and why Epic Games took the giant leap of faith in adding and favouring of such a thorough and complex Creative mode to the game.
For those who neither have the imaginative capabilities nor the manipulative ability to create such wonderful works of art, they can at least benefit by reaping the entertainment value that results from viewing others' wonderful creations.
Runescape has been around for as long as I and many other gamers can remember, it’s older than most millennial gamers! It was one of the first MMOs I had ever played and instantly fell in love with the simple mechanics of mining, smelting, crafting, woodcutting, fire making and other endless thankless tasks with friends for hours on end.
Still to this day the game has kept a steady player count as demonstrated in the graph below using data from Misplaced Items.
Old School Runescape has had a massive resurgence and is holding up the player count at the moment compared to Evolution of Combat Runescape which has unfortunately bombed over the last few years. On the 4th January, 2019 Runescape celebrates its 18th birthday and they have a huge year planned worth of updates including mining and smithing revamp which happens this month where you can mine the same spot for hours on end as the nodes won’t die out, plus smithing levels now match the gearing level finally!
Four new tiers of metal are coming to smith with and apparently a cool looking new level 90 armour including a further level 92 armour where you can combine those rare monster drops to give even better armour. This all means that smithing will be profitable!
Improvements to the player owned farms are also coming in the year with the opportunity to have your own stables to put the animals your rearing and give your farm a sense of real belonging. There are loads of other updates coming during the year as well with a new elite dungeon, changes to fire making, and many more outlined in the video made by the Runescape team below:
All of the changes have been tested thoroughly by the Jagex team and also by the community too who had a big say in the development platform for these updates. Another area where there has and continues to be an extensive beta is the mobile version of the game, a version has been released which is the old school Runescape for mobile but requires you to start all over again. Just note it doesn’t affect your actual account so you can still log in to your proper account on your computer.
The cross-platform mobile version is being eagerly awaited by all players, the latest update states that from extensive beta feedback the developers are working on getting the user interface right and it is proving extremely tricky with the mobile setup, they’re currently looking at simplifying and restructuring the UI to make it “less daunting”. The old school version release has attracted a greater number of newer players and general feedback has been that Runescape can be quite a tricky place to be just dropped into, so they’re taking their time at making the tutorial and first few hours of gameplay as intuitive and helpful as possible so they can help the newer players that start off on the platform.
It certainly proves to be a busy year for the Runescape team, so if you’re having an episode of New Year nostalgia log on and feel free to hit me up on the Discord GameFront channel and we can adventure around in my new Rune Zamorak gear!

For the past two weeks, Epic Games has been running a really fun '14 Days Of Fortnite' special event for Christmas and the holidays.
Each day a new free challenge was available and by completing it, you could earn fun cosmetic rewards. Everyone in the Fortnite community assumed we'd have a few days after the 14 days were up to finish these challenges, especially since an Epic Games employee said that this would be the case on social media, indicating that players would have until the 3rd or 4th of January to complete the challenges.
This made sense when we first heard it. After all, these challenges were progressively more time-consuming to complete every day. The first day you had to do just 1 thing. But by day 5 you had to fly through 5 rings. By day 9 you had to dance in front of 9 Holiday Trees. By day 14 you had to search 14 chests. I didn't even bother logging into the game for the past couple of days because I assumed I could wrap all these up over the course of at least the next two or three days. I was planning on doing this with my kids when they got back to my house today (they were with their mom for the past week) and I was really looking forward to helping them earn the cool Gingerbread Pet, one of the coolest items in the game.
For some reason, Epic has instead decided to end the 14 Days of Fortnite challenges already, going back on what they told players.
In a surprisingly lame attempt to make up for this, Epic is giving out the day 14 reward, a special Glider, to anyone who completed at least one challenge during the event (guess if you already got that reward you get nothing at all).
This is a terrible solution and a slap in the face to Fortnite's loyal fan base. If anything, give out the Gingerbread Pet---quite clearly the best of the rewards---not a relatively boring Glider. But really, the obvious solution is to do what you said from the beginning and re-activate the challenges for 2 (or so) more days.
This whole thing is completely mind-bogglingly ridiculous. I honestly can't believe it. I'm not sure I've ever been this disappointed in Epic Games and I'm frankly astonished they would make such a terrible call. Talk about a great way to ruin an otherwise really fun holiday event.
Fortnite fans helped Epic Games earn $3 billion in profits in 2018. Repaying that by getting rid of these challenges days before everyone was expecting is about the Grinchiest possible way to treat fans. You simply do not tell the community that they'll have this extra time and then go back on that. I'm flabbergasted that nobody at Epic has realized this yet and that they think a Glider will make up for this decision.
For many of players, a good chunk of these challenges was nearly complete, with maybe a trick or two to land or a boogie bomb to toss. Without warning, we now no longer have access to complete them. Gamers are returning from vacation to find that they're simply gone.
Epic Games said one thing and then did something else and there is only one way to make it right. We'll see if Epic makes right by its customers. A Glider simply doesn't cut it. A great deal of trust in the company rides on this decision. What a shame a fun holiday event had to end on such a sour note.
P.S. Some people have mentioned that there was a countdown timer for when these would end. That's great. It showed up on day 14 and so nobody who didn't log in that day actually saw it. How this is actually helpful is beyond me.
Also, I want to add to this another complaint I had about this whole holiday event. Epic added snow to the entire map, a really cool thing to celebrate Christmas. It lasted for exactly one day, on Christmas, when many people were busy with family and not playing Fortnite. Why keep doing these special things if you make it so many players can't experience them? The snow map isn't as big a deal as the challenges, but it still kind of illustrates how out-of-touch Epic is with people who have actual lives and don't play Fortnite all day every day. You know, normal people.
Hello, folks. We are on the first day of a brand-new year:2019 now! To celebrate this very moment and pursue the hotspots in the game industry, we decided to push out the first news of the new year on the first day with Grinding Gear Games' announcement of a 2018 retrospective. It's the start of 2019 here in New Zealand. In addition to wishing the entire community a Happy New Year, we wanted to post our annual retrospective on 2018.
